Student Ministry

In 2011 we decided to introduce a Leadership Ministry system to enable ALL Year 6 students to take on a leadership role and to experience this in a variety of areas. We identified 4 main areas that the students could be involved in – Christian Ministry; Sport; Communication and Environment. Students are appointed to a new group each term. Each group develops a list including the duties and participates in chairing meetings. Learning about meeting procedures is another bonus of the system. This is an important way for Year 6 to support their school and for all students to get to know their school leaders.

Communication Ministry

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting School Assemblies.
  • Welcoming and thanking guests.
  • Representing the school at outside functions, as required (eg ANZAC Day).
  • Collating and Recording of Whole School Positive Behaviour Program — Faction Points.
  • Maintenance of Duty Bags.

These students should be well known throughout the school by their positive behaviour and pro activeness in supporting the school community.

Christian Leadership Ministry

Christian Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Mission activities (Caritas, Project Compassion, St Vinnies).
  • Lead School Prayer at assembly.
  • Speaking at assembly each week to publicise any upcoming activities in relation to the ministry such as Mass or fundraisers.

  • School Masses — setting up choir area, projector, lap top, running Powerpoint etc.

Publication Responsibilities

  • Preparing posters to advertise any upcoming fundraisers and promoting at assembly.
  • Organising prayer cards for children celebrating Sacraments.

Sport Ministry

  • Checking and maintenance of classroom equipment.
  • Assisting at sports carnivals as required.
  • Announcing any sporting results at weekly assemblies (netball, interschool etc.)

Environmental Ministry

  • Collecting ring tops, batteries from all classes, recording, reporting on these at assembly and presenting awards.
  • Litter patrols or clean up day initiatives.
  • Responsible for tidiest classroom and area award presented at assembly each week.

Our Library

Every class has a specific library day, which is Tuesday each week. On these days they will need to bring their library bag, without which they will not be able to borrow books. It is important that we encourage our children to take care of the books, as they are expensive to replace. Many families and students have over the years donated books to our library. These have special labels on the inside cover. It is often interesting to read who gave us a book and why.

At lunch times, especially during winter, the library is a special place. Different combinations of class groups have a day where they can mix and use the computers, games and other facilities.

School Prayer

Loving God

Be with us always and guide us to live as followers of Christ.

Help us to show a kind heart and a helping hand to those in need.

Unite our school community in faith, compassion, truth and service as we live our Mercy values.

St Michael,
Pray for us.
