Week 8

School is often a busy place and you never know what could happen each week. This week though has been quite different to any school week that I, or many other teachers or families, have ever experienced. The week has involved trying to maintain the school and keeping classes going for the students who are attending school, but it has also involved some planning and preparing for what might happen next. Understandably, we had an increased number of students staying home and the teachers have done an amazing job creating work packs to assist children to engage in their learning at home.

We have tried to maintain school routines by presenting our merit certificates and class awards by thinking of alternate ways to communicate without joining together in the hall. Dr Galos has been reading out the merit certificates over the PA so we can continue to share the good work of students and Father Son has helped lift spirits through prayer. The Year 6 class have been creative by prerecording the assembly items and creating a video for teachers to share with classes.

While this week has been different to anything that schools have experienced in the past, there will be more to come. We are can feel safety knowing that we are all in it together, and the strength of the St Michael’s community will help us all get through. Thank you to all the parents who have passed on messages of support, they are greatly appreciated by all staff.

Media Ministry

This week has been a bit chaotic for the teachers and students because so many students have been staying home. We hope they are ok and well.  We have been moving the desks around so that we have social distancing from others. Here are some more tips to stay safe from the coronavirus at home or at school:

  • Wash your hands before and after lunch.
  • Don’t stay too close to your friends
  • Use hand sanitizer
  • Try not to touch your face
  • Don’t touch others without washing your hands or hand sanitizer
