Our school goal for 2020 was to focus on critical and creative thinking. Little did we know that the plans we had in mind would be different to what has transpired. Nevertheless, we have been deeply engaged in both of these thinking skills over the last week as we plan remote learning for Term 2.

This past week we have been committed to learning new ways to deliver our teaching. The staff have been learning different ways to capture screen recordings on the iPads and laptops to create lessons for students. As with other creative processes, it can take time to create products, especially when starting out. A huge thank you to the staff for their commitment to providing a quality learning program for students by upskilling.

The current crisis has brought out the good in many people. We have seen many companies offer their services and products for free or at a discounted price. The staff have been busy investigating the different resources available and critiquing what is best suited to the St Michael’s context.

Once all the resources are finalised, teachers will be creating tutorials to help parents and students to access these new resources. Just like introducing new resources in the classroom, you may find at home that things don’t work perfectly the first few times. If something doesn’t work, that’s okay. Watch the tutorial again if there is one available and have another go. This may take up some time in the first few weeks as resources are introduced but know that it will get smoother with practice.

A survey will be sent out tomorrow by classes seeking feedback from families about remote learning. It aims to seek feedback around accessibility to information, accessibility to devices, time guides and workloads and the content
