Message from the Principal – Newsletter 29

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Congratulations to all students who represented our school at the Interschool Athletics Carnival today. The results were not available at the time of publication of this newsletter; however, we were proud of the way in which they tried their best and demonstrated good sportsmanship. Thank you to Miss Nat Brescacin for all her hard work in preparing the students for the carnival and to the parents who attended to support the school!

2021 Planning

During the school holidays, CEWA will release our budget figures for 2021 and we will be using these figures to prepare our 2021 budget early in Term 4 ready to present at our AGM. We require accurate student numbers to prepare our budget, hence, if your child will not be attending St. Michael’s in 2021, can you please notify reception in writing by the end of this term on admin@stmichaelsbass.wa.edu.au (with the exception of current Year 6 students).

Catholic Performing Arts Liturgy

Yesterday, Mia and Augustin in Year 6 joined me at St. Mary’s Cathedral to represent St. Michael’s at the Catholic Performing Arts Liturgy. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was a much different event than previous years, yet still a beautiful celebration led by Bishop Gerard Holohan. We gave thanks and praise to God through Word, song and dance for the talents He has blessed us with. We were privileged to witness four different liturgical movements and performances by three choirs, all from WA Catholic schools.

P & F Meeting Update – Thank you for your ideas!

At the P & F meeting on Monday night, a number of big spending items were approved and will be very gratefully received by the school.

A quote was approved for shade sails to go over the junior climbing equipment so we will now endeavour to have these installed over the October school holidays.

The P & F also agreed to go halves with the school in lockers for the use by the Year 6 class. During our strategic planning process, we received feedback from several parents about investigating ways that we can support our senior students with the transition into secondary school. Whilst this didn’t make it into our strategic plan as a big-ticket item, we listened and took on board all feedback and hence the seed for this idea was planted by parents. The new lockers should be ready for use by the 2021 Year 6 students and aim to assist students to develop important organisational skills and routines required for secondary school.

The P & F also agreed to look into purchasing some walkie talkie sets for use at carnivals and other events such as the Walkathon. Again, this idea came from a parent suggestion.

As you can see, the P & F work hard to raise funds to purchase wonderful resources for our school and provide fantastic suggestions and feedback which spark our ideas. We need as many heads around the table as possible to generate ideas, co-ordinate fundraising (and friendraising) events and make decisions about where the money will be spent on your behalf. So please consider coming along to have your say!! The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 19 October at 7.15pm.

The P & F are looking for helpers for upcoming events. Please see the School News section of this newsletter.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

God bless
