An Invitation to Have Your Say

The Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia (CECWA) is reviewing our system policies supporting our 75,000 students and 12,000 staff in 162 schools.

We invite all students, parents, CEWA staff and members of your community to help by telling us:

What makes a good Catholic school?

Facilitated sessions will take place at our Leederville office.  You can book your preferred session time online and choose from:

* Early Years LOFT Sessions (for Pre K – Year 4 Students and their Family)

* Open LOFT Sessions (Years 4 – 12 Students, Families, Staff and Community)

During the school holiday sessions, participants will also help to create a mural alongside local artist Linzi Carter.  This is an evolving creation, whose form will develop with each session.

We welcome you to participate in this unique opportunity to have your say on the future of our schools.

For more information and to register for a session, see: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/loft-catholic-education-western-australia-20262532767

Late Arrivals to School

Please note, if your children are late to school (ie arrive after 8:40am), they must be signed in at the Office. Otherwise they will show as absent on the roll. Thank you.

Absence Calls/Notes/Emails

Please note, after an absence a SIGNED NOTE needs to be provided to the teacher on your child’s return to school. The Department of Education Services has confirmed that whilst an SMS or phone message is NOT a substitute for a signed note when reporting absences, an email meeting the following criteria can be accepted:

  • FULL name of the student
  • CLASS / roll group of the student
  • Date
  • Reason for the absence
  • FULL NAME of the PARENT/GUARDIAN at the end of the message (the ‘from’ email address is not sufficient).

Please send emails meeting the above criteria to:  admin@stmichaelsbass.wa.edu.au or fill in the online absentee form on the Connected app.

Please note, teachers do not get to sit down and check their emails first thing in the morning, so if you have emailed the teacher regarding your child’s absence, they may not receive the information until later in the day. Therefore, please do not be upset if you receive an SMS or phone call from the Office to clarify the absence. For this reason, a phone call to the ABSENTEE LINE 6278 9802 is a more efficient way of communicating an absence than an email to the class teacher.

School Banking Program

The Commonwealth Bank have advised that ASIC recently announced a review of school banking programs and they are now seeking the public’s views of school banking programs to assist with this review.  You can do this online by answering ASIC’s short survey and providing any other feedback.  Simply visit

consultation.asic.gov.au/financial/capability-review-school-banking-programs/

The consultation period closes on the 31st October 2019.

The Commonwealth Bank welcomes the opportunity to take part in ASIC’s review, and remain dedicated to delivering programs that improve the financial capability of young Australians.

If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to email schoolbanking@cba.com.au

What would you do with $5,000 to spend at school?

We have the potential to raise over $5,000 a year for St Michaels, but to reach that figure we need everyone to do a little bit.

It doesn’t cost you anything. In fact, you can save money while you are raising money!

All you need to do is open a Commonwealth Bank student sav

ings account and then make a deposit each week through the school banking system.

It doesn’t matter how much you deposit; We just need ‘a’ deposit.

We raise money based on:

1) Every 10 deposits made per child

2) The number of students who make at least one deposit per year

Last year we raised over $1,000 through School Banking, but this year we have seen a 35% drop in participation rates which will be reflected in the funds we raise for our P&F.

If you are interested in receiving a weekly reminder from Renee, please send her a text on the number below.

There is still time to make a contribution this year and to get primed and ready for next year.

Contact Renee at reneebarker@live.com.au or on 0439 965 378 if you have any questions or would like to help with school banking (ad hoc volunteers are very welcome!
