School Social Worker Message

My thoughts are with you all as we find ourselves in such strange and uncertain times!

During the coming weeks, I will be sending home information that I hope will support you with ideas about how to care for your child’s emotional wellbeing and manage the mental health of yourself and your children as we move through this COVID-19 crisis.  I’ll also work with teachers to ensure that your children have access to wellbeing resources and activities whilst they are at home.

We know that having children at home for extended periods can be very tough on parents, and this period is a little more complex given that our usual social and physical outlets aren’t available to us. It’s normal to feel some anxiety at the moment, and there are also likely to be times when you feel you aren’t quite in control or don’t know what’s coming next. Be compassionate to yourselves as parents. Reach out to people who you know will support you when you have these moments. Remember that there is no such thing as a perfect parent and if you are feeling out of your depth with home schooling, remind yourself that this is a shared feeling with many other parents out there! On the other hand, try to slow down and enjoy the small things in life with your kids while you can. There is nothing like a global pandemic to make us reassess what is truly important in our lives.
